The University of Guyana Students'(UGSS) launched its scholarship program. This program will undertake the format of a beauty and intelligence pageant “King of Erudition, Queen of Elegance-True Beauty is Intelligence”. The Pageant is slated for Saturday, 7th of February, 2015 at 8pm at the National Cultural Center (NCC). The Senior Vice-President, Crystal Blackmore gave a preamble to the intent of the pageant and emphasized the unique aspect of this program which encompasses both male and female delegates vying for the winning Mr. & Ms. UGSS titles. Pageant committee head, Shebiki Beaton mentioned and thanked sponsors who are already in support of this venture. Inclusive of Trophy Stall, Tent City, Trendy Plus Boutique and Bargain Supermarket and Conveniences Store. The eleven contestants are being trained by Miss Pamela Dillon, Randy Madray and Stephen Validum.

- Malcom Moffatt
Malcolm Moffatt is an 18-year-old student at the University Of Guyana currently in his second year working towards a degree in Medical Technology. Mr. Moffatt aspires to aid in the health and well-being of others. He enjoys spending his free time working out in the gym as fitness is his passion. Malcolm would always take a quote with him that encourages him not to give up on anything and that quote said by none other than Malcolm X- “By any means necessary”.
- Paul Garraway
Paul Garraway is a 21 year old medical student who thrives on challenges! In fact, he wishes to enter the most difficult of fields in his medical career, neurology. He confesses that besides medicine he wants to be a part-time model. Although he may appear quiet and shy, Paul is quite the talker! He believes if we all try, just a little hard, anything is possible.
- Mr. Dwayne McKinnon
Mr. McKinnon embodies good character, charisma and intelligence – attributes generic of a true King. His platform, when summarized, focuses on human disabilities, specifically blindness.
- Taise Seepaul
The sharp and handsome Mr. Taise Seepaul is a student at the University currently perusing a diploma in Civil Engineering after which he plans to complete the full degree. Mr. Seepaul is a former student of Saint Stanislaus College and Queen’s College. He is currently a member of the Saints and Hikers Hockey Club. The ambitious and hardworking young man aims at completing his PhD in Civil Engineering and possibly become an international hockey coach.
- Jermaine Deharte
The talented and attractive Jermain Deharte is a student of the University who has already completed a Diploma in Banking and Finance and is currently working towards completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. He was raised in a single parent home and acknowledges his mother for making him the ambitious and well-disciplined young man he is today. He desires to one day flourish in the career path of Finance.

- Melissa Rushanna Canterbury
Self-efficacy and the embodiment of ebullience introduces Melissa Rushanna Canterbury, 21 years old. Melissa enjoys recreational activities such as basketball, football, swimming and gym. Her hobbies are socially interacting, dancing and partaking in cultural activities. The striking Ms. Canterbury holds interests like exploring nature and discovering new adventures. Melissa is aspiring to become a radio and television presenter.
- Sarafina Phillips
Captivating and beautiful are just two words to describe Ms. Sarafina Phillips. Although Guyanese by birth, Ms. Phillips spent eleven years in St. Lucia before returning to Guyana to pursue her Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. The aspiring 18 year old is quite talented and very athletic. Loving the simple things in life she spends most of her time laughing with family and friends, listening to music or simply getting to know herself. Living a life that is righteous and exercising the truth of equality (for we are all the same) are two of her many aspirations.
- Gabriella Chapman
Hailing from the beautiful Bartica is the equally beautiful and indeed dazzling Gabriella Chapman. This 19 year old is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture at the University of Guyana with aspirations of one day becoming an Agricultural Business Manager. Despite her career choice, her hobbies do not coincide with that field; she is more interested in singing, dancing and modeling.
- Tomika Cooke- Chase
We introduce to you Ms. Tomika Cooke-Chase, a final year Marketing Management student, and phenomenal young woman with high expectations in life. Her dream is to be a leader and to be known for her courage, daring, and original ideas. She has worked in the Education sector and also volunteered as a youth educator through the Ministry Of Education. Currently she is a member of Junior Chamber International (Guyana), an actress as well as a young entrepreneur. She related that her strength comes from her relationship with God and she strives to motivate others through her actions.
- Esther Inniss
Meet the esteemed and enduring Esther Inniss. This stunning 21 year old is a third year student who is pursuing her Bachelor of Social Science Degree in International Relations. Ms. Inniss aspires to be of great service to her community and country through becoming a political scientist and an excellent family lawyer. Additionally, she is tactful, talented and cheerfully talkative!
- Christina Richardson
We present to you the striking and intelligent Christina Richardson. This fourth year Literature student is nothing short of charismatic. Inclined to academia, she is friendly, has a heart for youths and is a lover of socials. Though an aspiring criminal lawyer, Christina’s passion for literature and art theory has awakened a desire to reignite effective expression in the minds and lives of youths across Guyana.
