The title, ‘The King of the Mohawk’ may seem like a comical one with which to align the former chutney soca monarch, Ravi B.
In 2010, the evenly accomplished music director/producer/arranger, made history as the youngest chutney-soca monarch since the competition’s inception in the 90s. The lead male vocalist for the band Karma is known for his fun-loving personality, a trait that makes him endearing to many as he continues to break barriers.
Past hits include “Prescription” and “Bread”, the former being a runaway hit almost from the date of its release. One thing that cannot be denied is that he has a unique way of blending that harmonious, old-school bhajan vocal sound with even his potent soca-infused offerings, an ability that somewhat escapes older colleagues.
Over the years, he has collaborated with artistes such as Hunter, Swappi, Machel Montano and others. His 2015 releases include “Dulahin” and “Flowing” and he has worked with Barbadian Alison Hinds for a chutney soca song titled “Potion”; Rakesh Yankaran (“Monday”) and Kerwin Du Bois (“Overdoing It”).
