Shameeza Wong for the Miss West Indies Pageant

Guyana’s representatives, Shameeza Jasmine Wong is presently in St Martin competing with more than 22 other beauties for the title of Miss West Indies. The pageant is slated for Saturday, February 14 at the Carnival Village in Galisbay, St Martin.

The Miss West Indies Pageant features some of the most beautiful, intelligent and talented young women in the Americas.

The event is aimed at highlighting the salient defining factors of today’s woman in terms of her beauty, charm, creativity, intelligence, and talent. The pageant is however, fashion industry driven.

One of the objectives is to establish fashion industry benchmarks in the Caribbean and the Americas and to provide the much needed exposure for both the fashion designers and “fashionistas” of the Region within the global marketplace.”

Shameeza Jasmine Wong, a five foot, six inch tall beauty is born under the Cancer zodiac sign to Maylene Wong and the late Herman George Glen. She is the eighth child in a family of 10 and attended Carmelita Nursery. Growing up she would see the struggles of her mother to make ends meet.

During her university life, Jasmine often contemplated modelling and competing in pageantry. As a child she would admire contestants and queens and wished she could achieve the same.

As she blossomed, her perspectives and certain stereotypes and prejudices changed. She realised that as a beauty ambassador, she can reach many people to further her cause and contribute her grain of sand to her community.

She was involved in planning the 2014 Volunteer Youth Corps (VYC) children’s Christmas concert and gift distribution, as she did in 2013.

Shameeza enjoys reading, cooking, volunteering for children projects, modelling, photography, surfing the net, music, and meeting new people. She enjoys a tasty plate of baked macaroni and cheese with baked chicken. Her favourite colours are red, black and sky blue.

Pertaining to her academics and goals, she would like to pursue a Masters Degree at a later date and also to be a television producer/host.

As a producer she will do research and analysis to generate content for shows that will also employ youths, since today’s youths are the future generation and they possess great skills and ideas that can contribute to their country and to their empowerment. Her favourite quote is “The ladder to success is never too crowded at the top”.

The other countries represented at the pageant are Anguilla, Honduras, Haiti, Antigua, Martinique, Antigua, The Bahamas, Martinique, Barbados, Mexico, Belize, Panama, Bonaire, Puerto Rico, Curacao, St Lucia, Cuba, St Martin, Dominica, St Kitts, The Dominican Republic, Nevis and the British Virgin Island.
