The Carib Soca Monarch competition will not be held this year as per normal, leading up to Mash in February. The competition which would have been celebrating 12 years, has been put on hold after the new Government announced that all major festivities that are usually held in February will now be held in May, leading up to Guyana’s 50th Independence anniversary.
Sources from ANSA McAL on Wednesday stated that it makes no sense to hold the Carib Soca Monarch Competition in February, since there will be no costume and float parade as was seen in the past.
The official stated that discussions are continuing with the aim of having a smaller competition in time for May 26 celebrations, noting it is still in the making. The reigning Carib Soca Monarch Jumo “Rubber Waist” Primo will be representing Guyana at the international leg of the competition in Trinidad and Tobago.
Nevertheless, the beverage giant will host its 4th edition of STAGE between February 19-22.
The venue for the hosting of the event is still to be decided but according to reports, an open air venue is preferred. STAGE will cater for four nights of fun and frolic. As usual, there will be the comedy night followed by the local soca night and then the international night, and it will culminate with Bunji Garlin and Fyon Lyons and band.
The event is absolutely free and has attracted a large audience in the past. The last edition was held at Parade ground, Middle Street, Georgetown.
