Chris Gayle, Darren Sammy, Dwayne Smith, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Nicholas Pooran, Jason Holder, Jonathon Foo, Samuel Badree and Christopher Barnwell among many other top West Indies and local cricketers will take centre stage at the Providence National Stadium to engage in a T20 game on Saturday January 30.
At the launching on Tuesday at the Georgetown Cricket Club, Public Relations Officer of the event Sean Devers explained that the match has been sanctioned by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). He furthered added that a Kid’s fun day on the tarmac and five soft ball games will also be played.
The softball teams set to take part are Demerara girls, Berbice Karibee Girls, Demerara Masters, Berbice Masters, Berbice Karibbee Boyz, Essequibo, Wolf Warriors (West Dem), Regal (Georgetown).
Ewert Williams of Legacy Promotions revealed that the aim of event is to unite Guyanese through Sports and to contribute to the 50th Independence Anniversary.
With the aim of giving back, James Bond, head of the 007 Promotions explained that plans are being put in place to have some of the cricketers travel to Berbice, where they will interact with fans and young cricketers.
“We trying to see if on Friday we can carry some of the cricketers to Albion Community Center Ground to meet some of the fans there, maybe bowl a few balls, hit a few sixes”, Bond said.
It was noted that the first batch of cricketers will arrive in Guyana Thursday 28 then on Friday 29.
There will also be live radio commentary and fans can win US $500 if they take a one-handed catch in the stands. Oragnisers also revealed that Sarwan and Barnwell will be the two captains of the teams.
Digicel’s Sponsorship and Events Manager, Luanna Abrams, said the company was pleased to be associated with event and that fans can expect surprises from Digicel.
Tickets cost $2000 and will cost $1000 more if purchased on the day at the stadium.
