Producer Linton ‘TJ’ White gives a second serving of Vybz Kartel with his latest project, King of the Dancehall, set for iTunes pre-order on May 6. The physical album is slated to hit stores on June 10
The 14-track set is co-produced by White’s TJ Records and Adidjahiem Records. It will be distributed by Zojak World Wide.
It is White’s second Kartel collection in one year. In March 2015, his company released the 11-track Viking (Vybz is King) which debuted at number three on Billboard’s Reggae Album chart.
“I have worked on a lot of singles with Kartel such as Touch A Button, VIP, Tun Up The Scheme, Without Money. I also did the Viking EP prior to this album,” White, who is based in South Florida, reportedly said.
White said King of the Dancehall boasts “never before released tracks” Kartel recorded before his incarceration for murder two years ago. Despite being behind bars, his popularity among hardcore dancehall fans is unabated.
The 40-year-old’s decade-long run saw flashes of brilliance in songs like Clarks, released in 2010. A salute to the popular British shoe, the manufacturers used the song as part of its ad campaign that year.
Kartel (given name Adidja Palmer) is currently serving a life sentence following his murder conviction in April 2014 for the death of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams in 2011. He will be eligible for parole after 35 years.
