Digicel launches Christmas promotion

With 18 days left before Christmas day, Digicel launched it Christmas promotion with much pomp and ceremony.

The setting was that of masquerade prancers, steel pan drumming out popular infectious  Christmas tunes and carols at the Georgetown club. Children sat in a Christmas village setting declaring what they want for Christmas from Christ Kringle (Santa clause) and Mrs. Clause while Elves worked in the toy workshop.

The children from success elementary school sang  ‘Angels we have heard on high’ followed up by a reflection of Christmases long ago by a granny imitation who with cane in hand spoke of house cleaning, setting the garlic pork and making the pepper pot. So nostalgic was the presentation that the story of making black cake and rice wine rang through. Hot with pepper pot seasoned with black cake and lavished with ginger beers Christmas was worth its weight in gold, she said.

The children of Digicel staffers also sang give love on Christmas Day.

Jacqueline James who ultimately launched the promotion said this year the company is focused on sharing smiles under Digicel Christmas cheer share a smile umbrella. ‘Its all about giving and sharing the joy and the merriment of the festive season and we are taking the Christmas cheer across Guyana through a Santa village. The village will feature a story telling Santa and his elves as part of the ushering in of the Christmas spirit and will be visiting 15 communities as far as Lethem, Linden and Georgetown.

The company’s major Christmas Programme rolls out  from December 12 to 25.  James said we are ‘Going big and wide and Will be offering handsets for as low as $2500 on hands sets as well as up to 70 percent off selected hand sets.  Further, for every smart phone bought the purchaser gets 1 month free data service and there is also an offer of the blackberry curve 9320 on sale for  $40,000.

This is being done to help people offer more Christmas gifts this year and additionally the galaxies mini hands sets will be launched as part of the promotion. The first three persons to spell the word Galaxy and contact the head office will win the Galaxy S3, the galaxy mini and the note book for christmas by topping up $500 or more.
