The Slingerz family on Monday officially launched its first football club and Stag West Side Mashramani football tournament at Digicel’s head office in Kingston.
The club, based on the West Coast of Demerara, will be captained by Kashif and Shanghai’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) Dwain Jacobs of Buxton while the newly formed tournament, sponsored by Digicel, Stag Beer and Hopkinson’s Mining, will kick off on Sunday with a double-header from 18:00 hours at the Den Amstel ground.
Eagles FC will play Uitvlugt FC at 18:00 hours while Slingerz FC battle Beavers FC from 20:00 hrs. The tournament concludes on March 3.
There will be in excess of one million dollars in cash and prizes up for grabs with the top club receiving $500,000, second, $300,000, third and fourth, $150,000 and $50,000, respectively.
Eagles Football Club (FC), Uitvlugt FC, Slingerz FC, Beavers FC, Seawall FC, Stewartville FC, Den Amstel FC and Young Achievers FC will vie for the inaugural title.
Bilaal Nantambu, who chaired the press conference, quickly cleared the air that Slingerz Football Club is a legitimate club affiliated to the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA).
